sport paddle question

There are one of two ways you can see the gear you are in while in D mode. The first is by using the paddles from a dead stop while in D mode. This works when your constantly accelerating or decelerating and changing gears, but as soon as you maintain a constant speed the trans defaults back into full auto and the gear number disappears. The second is by pulling the upshift while at a constant speed.
Now if you want to see what gear you are in at all times you should put the gear select into S mode and pull a paddle. The gear number will show in the indicator along with the letter "M". The "M" means that the trans is in manual mode, in this setting you, the driver, have to upshift into the next gear or you will hit the redline. The trans will automatically downshift for you as you slow down.
Here is a topic further discussing the paddle equipped Fits.

When you are in D tapping the paddle generally shifts to the gear it thinks you should be in at that speed. Sport shows the gear at all times once activated.
PS mozart was a genius but beethoven is better.
