You're driving over 50 mph and someone rolls down a rear window.... air pressure causes the ugliest noise in the world. Like your eardrums are being shaken like a subwoofer. Wondering if it's just me

yeah this happens on every car. I call it "the helicopter" LOL. It can make your ear drums bleed! thats why i never open rear windows without opening the fronts. If i remember correctly it only happens when one rear window is open.

It happens in most cars if you open any window without cracking another one....But I don't notice it in the Fit. I'm not sure why. I'll try rolling down just the rear window tomorrow to see if I can hear the same effect.
It is a bad noise, like fingernails on a chalkboard.

The only time I've had it happen to me was on a windy day. Most likely, what's really happening is the wind is blowing sideways in relative to your car. It happened to me while I was driving through a curve, and by the time, the wind direction was at the same path as the car, it stopped. Then on the next curve, the noise gradually started again. It's like a squealing pig...hahaha!

Warning, Science Content!
You are creating a "Helmholtz Resonator", like blowing across the top of a bottle. The frequency is much lower because the interior space of a car is so much larger than a bottle's. Try opening a window on the opposite side of the car. That prevents the resonance.
