synthetic oil performance benefits?

Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 is amazing. I just got my UOA (used oil analysis) done on it. Good god it was like there weren't any moving parts in my motor it came out so clean. The lab I got it done at said that my engine was the cleanest running engine they have come across in a long time, so I must be doing something right! 91 Octane(cheap insurance against pinging), drive under 3K until coolant and oil are warm and always use Pennzoil Platinum. Aluminum levels were really low, copper was low, silica was low, moly was at a very good level for the interval and my TBN and TBA were both great! (changed via maintenance minder recommendations). Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com for more information on oil you could ever ask for. Pennzoil Platinum is highly regarded as the best synthetic you can buy for the price and some might argue, the best synthetic you can buy period, myself included.

of high performance oils, Royal Purple shows among the highest power/performance gains, but it breaks down faster than mobil1 or Pennzoil Plat. Castrol Syntec or 4T(which is racebike 4stroke oil, also works really well in cars) is what I usually use, although at the moment my last 2 cases are mobil1 because more places carry it. The castrol is nice to buy in the 5quart jugs. Quaker state synthetic is actually pretty good too. I'm biased to the Castrol tho, it usually looks cleanest even after thousands of miles. running 5w30 has no negative side effects, and no negative side effects for lucas oil additive(which coats metals better), lucas fuel system treatment, or marvel mystery oil. All help lubricate the engine better.

Yea, I ran Royal Purple in my J30 and it breaks down much faster than other synthetic, but I love the initial gains though. What do you run most commonly in your Fit? I'm torn between Mobil1 and the suggested Pennzoil Plat. I'm also definitely going to hop into 5w-30.

Testing my Fit and other cars on our dyno, the results show consistently 3-4% gain in output power and 3-4% reduction in specific fuel consumption.
We do see an increase in the time to change oil based on the change in viscosity. I wish we could test shear strength but just don't have the equipment. Suffice it say we know 6000 mile between changes are normal for good synthetics vs 3000 mi hydrocarbon oils.

yea synthetic oil is so much better. better gas milage. a tad more power. and it protects ur engine a lot better. and the best part is it's not that much more expensive to switch over. so y not use the saved money from gas milage and use synthetic to preserve ur engine right.

Castrol Edge 5w30 is the best full synthetic out there. Longest life, best wear protection. It works in high performance racebikes too, no problem. Probably switchin to the Castrol Edge on the bike soon since it revs to 15K rpm.

Of course you have the test data to show that, right?
The data we have show Mobil 1, Castrol, and Amsoil statistically comparable. As long as you use a recognized major brand you'll be OK.

Beat on her like a rented mule!!
From what is in the Car Bibles / oil; Amsoil is the best for our little 4 bangers. I know that MzFiT see 5k shifts as a norm. and to help my consence as much as the internals of the drivtrain staying together I only use Amsoil 5/20 with Wix filter and universal trans fluid honda approved. With short ram A.F. 40 psi in all 4 corners 32-36 mpg in town with alittle hyway and 44 mpg straight hyway loaded with luggage and family!! 'O ya and 8oz. of poppa's reciepe with every fill-up ...................

just use whatever the local o'reilly's has a sale on when it's close to changing time. first 2 changes were with RP and this last one was with mobil1 full synth. thought RP was "smoother"? or let the engine rev a bit easier but then again I'm also using 5-20 over 5-30 this time 'round.

Oil is the most mysterious substance ever made. You will find mile long shouting matches over what oil is better than what. From reading all this stuff plus lots of tech stuff from oil guys, here's my 2 cents:
- Oil shouldn't change your MPG; doesn't make sense unless your previous oil was so thick it actually impeded crank movement
- Oil shouldn't really affect performance either; using oil so thin your crank can pass through it easier and faster means you're probably using too thin an oil
- Oil additives, man I don't know, if they really did anything, why wouldn't the manufacturers put them in the car's oil to start with? If it really protected better they'd throw it in there - who doesn't want to advertise longer engine life? Snake oil.
- Oil, like many other things, doesn't perfectly sit on a sliding scale between 'bad' and 'good'. Some oils meant for racing protect very very well until they break down super fast. Avoid top shelf stuff; it's snake oil for suckers. The Fit engine is not a Cosworth Formula motor. It's a Honda, just feed it the good stuff and don't bounce off the rev limiter like you're in Group B rally
- Check out this crazy oil talk for some real data: Revenge of the Nerd - Nissan in the sump with diamonds? - Make sure to read the comments section, someone drops some crazy oil knowledge
Edit: oh yeah, running an engine with premium fuel when all it requires is regular is usually fine, but sometimes the higher detonation point of higher octane gas can leave deposits behind since the engine doesn't take advantage of the potential of timing retard. So just run regular in your Fit, and save some cash.

Im using amsoil 0-20. best product. increased my mpg by 2-3. my vehicle is hell'ah smooth when the gears shifts (automatic). you don't feel or notice the shift. best part, oil interval is 25,000 miles or 1 year. what ever comes first

Engine oil is separate from ATF, and has no effect on how the transmission shifts.
