Noob here; hello to all.
Maybe soon to be a Fit owner. I did get some questions answered with the search feature, but I still have a few.
Realize there is a more specific place for lights, but the general forum seems to get more traffic, so I'll post it here.
I've gotten used to great lights in my TJ Jeep (E-code H-4s); how are the stock lights in the Fit? We live in the dark and misty mountains of Westsylvania, and good lights are more than a convenince.
I have no desire for an HID conversion; we're buying this car as Ebenezer transportation, not as a hobby.
If the stock lights are GTG, fine. If a bulb upgrade will help, no problemo.
Are the OEM lights wired thru' a relay or are they on the column switch?

Coming from a car with Stock HIDs... when I bought the Fit I felt as If i could not see while driving at night. IMO yes the bulbs need to be upgraded, however a decent bulb upgrade is not cheap enough to where I would recommend them over HIDs.

 

Hi noob. I'm not familiar with the setup on your Jeep, but I can say that the lights on my 07 Fit sport are as good as those on my 05 EX accord.

 

need a bulb replacement at minimum.

Also you may want to do an adjust to get them pointing a little higher. makes a big difference.

 

Still need to know; are the lights wired thru' relays or back thru' the switchgear in the cabin? Makes a huge difference in how much improvement you get with uprated bulbs.
Even if no one has a wiring diagram, does anything go 'click' under the hood when the lights are tripped?

I don't believe the lights go through relays on the Fit. I got HID for my foglights 55watt 4500K and put Sylvania Silverstars in the headlights (only so they would somewhat match the fogs in color, the OE bulbs were a sickly yellow) And I also adjusted both sets of lights upwards by quite a bit. I have been very very happy with the results, I have zero issues with night driving on the deer ridden roads here in WV. I personally won't waste the money putting HID in the headlights, I think it wouldn't really make enough of an improvement over where I am now. Also do the independant fog mod, it is the best ten minutes (and five bucks) you can spend on the lighting in this car.

 

Hmm.. I thought the lights are really good! Or, at least they are much, much better than the lights on our Prius or Solara.

 

The low beams aren't bad once you adjust headlight height. Even so I run the fog lights almost all the time unless I'm in the city.

The stock high beams are terrible. I added a set of 90mm driving lights to get enough light out there to keep Bambi (and me!) safe.

 

Simple beam height adjust as others have stated helps a ton. I upgraded to H4 Silverstar Ultras. I left the fogs alone as they are bright enough and wide enough of a pattern (good design if you ask me).

So basic bulb upgrade about $50 with tax and a 5 minute headlight height adjustment (rotate the gear about 150-270 degrees is best for myself and many others on here.

 

the only way i see it is if you wanna see better at night than get HIDs, trust me i had my fair share of halogen bulbs that are suposed to be brighter and dont do much better than stock, (nomatter what they say) silverstar ultras, i only payed 63 bucks for my hid shipped and they work perfect at night, you wont see much of a difference unless you get em, mine were direct plug and play so i didnt have to do much and in no time they were on and i was able to see at night!

 

Where'd you get such cheap HIDs?

Oh I just remembered, I also uprated the stock bulbs. The fine folks at Susquehanna Motorsports Home Page will be happy to sell you some Osram Hyper 70/65w bulbs. There is also an 85/80w bulb but at that level you start thinking about wire gauge and the quality of the plastic headlight housing, and this is after all a "B" class econocar. I went with 70/65w and they do make a difference.

The high beams still suck though.

PS: Please don't tell anyone how wonderful our state is. We already have enough imported assholes for my taste!

 

Educate me on HIDs; it was my impression that they require ballasts and other support, and that hi/lo beam switch was a somewhat mechanical process. Did I misunderstand, or have HIDs gotten a lot simpler?
Do I have to say real HIDs, vs. something replicating their color? I'm not trying to be a smartass here; I'm just perplexed.

wdb- thanks for a good tip and reminder about Susquehanna Motorsports; they are great folks, most accomodating, and the source of the E-code H4s that are stuffed in the grille of my TJ. If all halogen lights were that good, I'd never complain. I just drove home over Beffert Moutain in a real frog-strangler of a storm, and I could see.

BTW, in Somerset County, we have T-shirts that say 'beautify Pennsylvania; shoot a flatlander'. We don't generally do it, tho'.

Hey I am in fact a very ignorant flatlander, about HIDs anyway, and please don't shoot me. Links and or guides WTF whatever please enlighten me (I'm here to learn: Adam Sandler) as to the difference to $60 lights and $500 lights. By the way the stock lights on my 08 seem pretty damn bright to me but I'm a flatlander.

 

Hi - Welcome! I have a 2007 Honda Fit and live in the hills of take me home country roads WV. I have never had a problem with the lights on my car and not being able to see. They seem to work pretty well for me and i have traveled some pretty nice mountains. I know that alot of people on this forum have changed them out and had some adjustments made that seem to work for them.

WV is a tough test of vehicles and lights. Always liked the habit of posting speed limits considerably higher than Billy Joe Bob's pickup can take the turns. You have to have the God-given good sense to slow down, or fly off into the scenery.
Your night driving issues are much like our own.
