Strut Replacement Options?
#23
Hootie, I can't thank you enough. I found a set of HTS shocks on Amazon and despite the $1K price, they are exactly what I was looking for. I've loved having Koni yellows on the rear, and can't wait to see how it feels with the HTS on the front. Lotus found great success with the combination of soft springs, firmly dampened. Great combination of ride and handling. I like the OEM ground clearance for the Alaska Highway..,.
Thanks again. I'm going to get new control arms, sway bar end links, tie rod ends and and motor mounts also, I like to pre-empt trouble.

1) Make sure your Tokicos come with their adjustment tool. When adjusting, go from the firmest setting and count down to your desired softness. These will free spin and not give you any clicks like Koni's Yellow would.
2) For the rear shocks you will have to bore out the hole in the washer that the shock goes though. Not much though but its a little detail that I remember, otherwise plug and play.

Thanks, Hootie. ShockWarehouse, about $800.00 with shipping to Alaska for just the struts. They had a link for the key fob adjusting tool but it was d/c so I hope the struts come with one. My Konis did. I already had to make modifications to adapt the Konis (there's a DIY thread on this site, they are spec'd for the Saab 900S), and I decided that since I can get the struts without the rears I'm just going to stay with the Konis for now. I am entirely satisfied with them. Will do what you say regarding dialing them in. I'm really psyched.

I replaced front and rear last year with KYB along with new strut mounts. My perception is that they seem stiffer / harsher than original. Or maybe I've just gotten older and more sensitive to these things in 13 years of owning this vehicle. Rockauto describes the KYBs as same OE components but "calibrated to compensate for worn suspension components". To me that could mean they've stiffened them up to compensate for wear elsewhere in the suspension. Not a huge deal as at least they're not mushy.
